YouTube to flashcards: find out what you remember from a lesson
Following an explanation is different from recalling it later. Turn a YouTube lesson into flashcards and answer before you flip each card.
The prompt should make sense away from the video
While you watch, the speaker and the screen give you cues. A review card needs its own context: “what happens next?” is unclear if it never names the process.
Generate flashcards from the video, edit prompts that depend on a scene, and ask the AI Tutor when you do not yet understand the concept.
Replace a reference to the screen with a clear concept
Illustrative revisions from a Calvin cycle lesson, not guaranteed output from a video.
Which molecules from the light reactions supply chemical energy to the Calvin cycle?
ATP and NADPH. Instead of “what are these molecules?”, naming the process makes the task clear.
How does the Calvin cycle depend on the light reactions?
It uses the ATP and NADPH they produce to fix CO₂. Check the relationship, not only the names.
What role do ATP and NADPH play in that connection?
They supply chemical energy to the cycle. One task per card; rebuild the full lesson with a summary or a written question.
Make the cards part of a review session
-
Add the lesson as a source
Put the video in a topic folder next to course PDFs and notes, then generate flashcards.
-
Check that prompts stand alone
Replace vague words like “this” or “here” with the concept and compare answers with the video.
-
Try before revealing
Form your answer, flip the card and shuffle the order. Generate more cards when you want more practice.
Choose the next step by the difficulty
-
You understand it but could not recall it
Keep reviewing and compare your attempt with the back to find the concept that needs another try.
-
You recalled the words, not the meaning
Return to the summary or the video and ask the tutor. Naming ATP and NADPH does not explain the relationship.
-
You can explain it and want to apply it
Practice with multiple-choice or written questions from your materials: a different task than short recall.
From video to review in one place
The video stays in the folder with the topic's summaries, cards and questions.
